Assist the Local Trappers Committees

There are five programs that help the trappers, which are carried out by the local trappers committees. The Regional Association also provides assistance in these areas.

(1) Transportation program
The trappers must travel at least four times per year. Truck, boat, charter airplane and helicopter make these trips. The local fur officer coordinates these trips for the trappers in his community and the regional association assists with this as required.

(2) Medical Bush Kit
When trappers are in the bush, they are often extremely isolated. The local community clinics run by the Cree Health Board have developed a training program and emergency medical kit. The emergency medical kits are taken into the bush to provide health care for families in the bush. The use of the medicines in the kit is supervised by bush radio via the local fur officer, to the nurse at the community through the clinic.

(3) Trapline cabins
Through various sources, the trappers construct cabins in the bush to act as base camps while hunting and trapping. The regional association assists with this program in any way possible, providing logistical or administrative support.

(4) Emergency Fund
Some communities provide emergency funds for their trappers via the local trappers committee. When called upon, the regional association assists in any manner possible with logistical and administrative support.
