A project funded by the Canadian Wildlife Service
(Species at Risk) and the Foundation de la Faune du
Quebec was developed to sensitize Cree to the fact
that three species of raptors in Eeyou Istchee were
threatened. These three are: the golden eagle, the
peregrine falcon and the bald eagle. Between 2005
and 2007 the nine Cree communities were visited.
An information kit suitable for classroom use
was developed in Cree, English and French. In 2007-
2008 a first group of classrooms at Whapmagoostui,
Chisasibi, Wemindji and Eastmain were visited and
the remaining classrooms will be visited in 2008-2009.
Two organizations that have worked very closely with
the CTA on this project are the Union Quebecoise de
Rehabilitation des Oiseaux de Proie and the Ministere
des Ressources Naturelles de la Faune.
