Migratory Bird Studies

The Migratory Bird project which was carried out from November 2004 to March 2009 was funded by the Northern Ecosystem Initiative (NEI). An Information Sharing Agreement which addressed the Cree concerns about data collection was negotiated and signed. This agreement allowed the Cree to carry out a migratory bird data collection study that suit their needs and objectives. The data collected was integrated into a data bank maintained by the Cree Regional Authority.

This bank of information will be shared by all partners (CTA, CWS and CRA). This project will increase the capacity of the Cree to participate in future research design, implementation and interpretation.

The 2005 study was carried out at Wemindji and Waskaganish. In 2006 and 2008 the hunters at Wemindji, Waskaganish and Mistissini were interviewed. This project is useful for the CTA and its partners to monitor migratory bird harvests.
